The term ‘History’ according to Ifemejie, is a body of knowledge about the past, the past of a man in society which consists of facts ascertained through
honest enquiry, as well as interpretation arrived at by the historian and is available inform of true records on paper or in the memory of man.

Over time, history as a subject has contributed to the development of the society’s right from medieval period.

One of the impacts of History on students is ability to assess evidence. The study of History in schools build experience in dealing with and assessing
various kind of evidence which historian use to interpret the statement of past political leaders and to distinguish between the objectives and the self-serving statement made by the present day political leaders.

Secondly, teaching History helps the students to gain some skill in sorting through divers, often conflicting interpretations. The central goal of historical
study is to understand the past event of man and use it to correct what is going on in the present day.

Thirdly, teaching of history in schools helps the students to understand the changes that occur in 19th century which led to technological innovation in
Europe, and this will help the students to think on how to bring this developmental change in their societies.

Finally, the impacts of History in our schools is that it helps the students to become good business people, professional, and political leaders. Some
employers usually seek the students with historical study. The reason is that students of history studied different societies in the past; this gives them a lot of experience in many work situations. They develop research skills, the ability to evaluate sources of information and the need to identify and evaluate diverse interpretations.
